Man of the South- Pinky Occupation
I hope the man with "his" cadillac and creepy finger collecting ways soon puts his odd betting habits behind him because it would've had been a travesty to strip this young man of his very underrated pinky finger. The boy in this story is said to be a young sailor in the U.S. Navy. The occupation of a sailor could involve a lot of various components including repairing the ship, steering the ship, and helping to maintain the vessel while out at sea. If the sailor in the story had lost his pinky finger in the bet, his occupation as a sailor would have been adversely affected and he would need to make adjustments for this loss. For example, steering the ship would be affected in terms of grip. The steering wheel would be harder for the sailor to grip to actually steer due to the loss of the little finger that actually does a lot of the grip motion in the hand. If the sailor lost the entire finger at the MCP joint then he could implement a prosthesis that would restore his grip ability. This could be done with an activity-specific partial hand prosthesis (See Picture). This kind of prosthesis is designed with an occupation in mind and specific to client factors. Alongside the activity-specific prosthesis, it would be imperative that proper care and aid would be taken to the amputated finger following the cut to reduce the risk of infection. If he could not get taken immediately to a hospital, the wound should be washed out with water or a sterile solution and wrapped in gauze. Following the amputation and doctor's visit. Ensure that the finger is fully healed before looking into the use of the prosthesis.

I do think he will need to make sure that his injury does not get infected. On a ship, many things have rust on them due to the excess exposure to sun and water. If his injury comes into contact with a rusty item, it might not be too great. If his injury does get infected, it could result in his whole hand having to be amputated.
