The OTPF


The OTPF is basically a guide to occupational therapy practitioners. The OTPF summarizes and lays out interrelated constructs that are beneficial to Occupational Therapy. It is important because the OTPF is used to establish a common language, improve a standard of communication, highlight the scope of practice, and guide an Occupational therapist's evaluation, intervention, and outcomes. When referring to the scope of practice portion of the OTPF, it outlines the skills, knowledge, and expertise required of an OT. Also listed in the OTPF are domains, which is defined in OT as the everyday life activities that people find meaningful and purposeful. Examples of domains listed in the OTPF are occupations, client factors, performance skills, performance patterns, context & environment, and activity demands. All of these domains can be further broken down and is integral to the OT process when looking at the client in a holistic manner. Therefore, the OTPF is an extremely important guide to the Occupational Therapy profession.
